Speaking at MAX
I’m speaking at Adobe MAX next month. My talk is “Flash Builder 4 Advanced Tips and Tricks”. It should be a hoot. I think my talks are Tuesday and Wednesday afternoon. Here’s the description:
Dive in to the depths of coding features of Flash Builder 4 with Scott Evans, one of the product’s lead developers. Learn keyboard shortcuts you’ll use every day, how to keep your code beautiful, cool new debugger tricks, hidden commands, and ways to extend Flash Builder. Plus, Evans promises to leave ten minutes for the audience to yell feature requests at him!
I’ve been meaning to post most of my talk content here on the blog, but unfortunately I haven’t had time — too much heads-down coding. So come to MAX and yell at me!

Hi, I just listened to your Max talk on the net. Very good.
I’ve been using Flex for a couple of years and love it, but I’m still using Flex 3. I compiled a wish list for new FlexBuilder features. It looks like lots of them are things you’ve already put into FlashBuilder 4. Still, here’s the list:
organize imports in mxml file
outlines for scripts inside mxml file
auto-import in mxml file
find references slow, sometimes doesn’t work
fix differences between flexbuilder compiler and command line compiler
save & compile but not build swf – to check errors
easy way to create getter/setter/member variable
execute a function in the debugger (e.g. this.getChildAt(0))
way to view object and interface inheritance diagram
speed up the compiler
show all errors on a compilation, don’t stop after the first few
Hi Mitch – yep, a lot of those are in Flash Builder 4 — sadly, not all of them but of course that’s how it goes. Give the beta a shot and see what you think.
